    Abstract

    Smart tourism destinations have emerged as a means of integrating physical and technological infrastructure to create seamless experiences for tourists and improve the quality of life for residents. This study uses interviews and website content analysis to identify important themes regarding the present and future of Smart destinations. Industry and academic informants identified the leadership role of DMOs in integrating technologies and stakeholders, the use of big data analytics, robotics and artificial intelligence and other technologies, livability, e-governance, and privacy concerns of consumers in efforts to develop Smart destinations. The article concludes by providing a comprehensive framework for Smart destinations that advances theory and practice in their development, management and study.
