This paper looks at the privatization process in the, Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan in particular and the Arab World in general. It notes the slow and limited pace of privatization in the region. The paper challenges the view that economic factors are the main impediments to privatization, and provides a fresh evidence for the thesis that political factors are the primary factors indetermining the outcome of privatization policies. A better understanding to the way in which political factors affect economic reform, including divestiture, is needed.
